Eurus Wind Farm To Generate 250 Megawatts
Mexican building materials manufacturer Cemex and Acciona, a Spanish alternative energy company, have started working on the "Eurus" wind farm in Oaxaca, Mexico. Named after Eurus, the god of the East Wind from Greek mythology, phase 1 of the project will be in operation by March 2009 with the entire project scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Once complete, the EURUS wind farm will generate 250 megawatts of power, from 167 generators, and will be Latin America's largest wind farm. Cemex is contributing $42 million and Acciona is investing $550 million. By utilizing the power generated from the wind farm, Cemex is hoping to reduce its energy costs by 10% while also reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.
