International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
Originally an environmental initiative by Germany, Spain, and Denmark, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has now expanded to include 75 nations throughout the world. IRENA is a multinational organization whose primary goal is to support clean energy initiatives in both industrialized and emerging nations by providing guidance, best practices and technical knowledge. The 75 participating nations signed the treaty at a ceremony in Bonn this past Monday. Notably abscent from the list of participating nations are the United States, the United Kingdom and China. There is a possibility that these countries will join later on, but for now they are waiting for the new agency to mature and more clearly define its focus.
