GE To Purchase 25,000 Electric Vehicles
Sure to help the financial bottom line for General Motors, GE (Quote) announced plans to purchase 12,000 Chevy Volts starting next year. This is the start of GE's plan to purchase 25,000 electric vehicles through 2015. The Chevy Volt, along with electric vehicles from other manufacturers will begin to replace the existing vehicles in GE's current fleet of 30,000 vehicles. Not only will this help bring visibility to the electric vehicle market, but it will also increase demand for GE's grid equipment such as its "WattStation" charging point.
